Another Patented MAC Lite Lands in New York City

For construction companies in New York City complying with safety requirements like Local Law 196, the patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal is the perfect solution. Turn-key and easily deliverable to active construction sites, the patented MAC Portal (and more recently the MAC Lite) have the ability to be offloaded and put to use within minutes of arrival.

For more than a decade the patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal has been delivered to industrial and commercial construction sites around the world. Anytime the construction industry has been hit with new regulations or requirements for perimeter security, the MAC Portal has been there to provide the perfect solution. In the past, MSSI and the MAC Portal have worked to resolve perimeter security issues for ports, harbors, military installations, government agencies, and construction projects of all sizes.

Recently in New York City, Local Law 196 was implemented to require all workers on construction sites to be up to date on safety training before they enter the jobsite. Coupled with the right access control software and hardware, the MAC Portal has come to the rescue by making sure that only authorized individuals with proper security/safety training credentials are able to access the construction site.

With the first patented MAC Portal landing in New York City to support perimeter security on the Freedom Tower (One World Trade Center) construction in 2009, MSSI has been doing business for more than ten years. In recent years MSSI has had MAC Portals at the Hudson Yard Project, John F. Kennedy Airport, and a number of other projects in and around the Big Apple.

MSSI Secures Major Industrial Construction Projects Around the World

Modular Security Systems, Inc. (MSSI) and the patented Modular Access Control (MAC) have quickly become the perimeter security and access control staple for time and attendance at power, petroleum, and chemical plants across North America and around the world. Our turnkey MAC Portals with access control technology consist of climate-controlled guardhouses, high-security turnstiles, and customer-specified access control technology. In addition to turnstiles and access control our MAC Portals can also be fitted with other security features like surveillance cameras, metal detection and explosive detection equipment if site security requires that level of technology.

The MAC Portal is a plug-and-play access control solution that comes equipped with state of the art ID verification like biometric iris scanners, fingerprint readers, palm readers or simple proximity card readers.

Our customers choose MSSI and the patented MAC Portal because they can pick the type and level of technology that they would like installed in their MAC before it ships to their site. Rapidly deploy-able and turnkey installation is the natural fit for major industrial construction projects in a post-9/11 environment where thousands of military base camps and job sites need additional security.

Many North American plants have contractor entry gates and contractor parking lots that are not equipped with turnstiles or the needed access control in place at those plant entry points. Our patented MAC portals are the perfect fit and are therefore in high demand for refineries, chemical plants and large construction sites around the world.

Although initially developed with site security in mind, our patented MAC Portals are also being used for managing payroll when loaded with access control technology with gate-to-paycheck software.

Many industrial customers use the MAC Portal when a plant is “manning up” for a large capitol project or turnaround maintenance project and expecting an increase in manpower for a limited amount of time.

MSSI has quickly developed an impressive list of customers such as Sunoco Petroleum, Sunoco Chemical, Citgo, Marathon Petroleum, the US Air Force, US 3rd Army, US Pentagon, Jacobs Construction, KBR, Haliburton, Fluor Constructors, CB&I, Northup Grumman, Washington Group, and many others.

MSSI & the Patented Turnstile in a Shipping Container

Posted by Miles Duncil on Tue, Dec 11, 2018

turnstile security in a container, turnstiles in a shipping container, turnstiles in a container, MSSI, Modular Security Systems Inc

In 2004 Modular Security Systems Inc. (MSSI) imagined the combination of access control technology, turnstiles, and the portability of a shipping container and used that imagination to create the now patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal. In late 2008 MSSI received a Notice of Allowance by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the invention and has since received patents for the MAC Portal in The U.S., Canada, the European Union and a handful of other countries around the world.

The Patented MAC Portal was created by incorporating full-height turnstiles into a shipping container with portable access control technologies like card readers, biometric readers, RFID cards and can be a standalone access control system or be tied directly into an existing plant-wide access control system.

While the patented MAC Portal is the most convenient and effective access control solution available, not all projects are the same. And that is why MSSI offers a wide range of standard floor plans, custom designs, and two procurement options. The decision to purchase or rent a MAC Portal can be influenced by many different factors like length of the project, a company’s capital budget, depreciation vs. expense, etc. Regardless of your company’s financial situation, MSSI has the MAC Portal and procurement options to secure your site.

Over the past decade semi trucks with flatbed trailers and roll-off trailers alike have made their way in and out of MSSI’s Worthington, KY, manufacturing facility to deliver our patented MAC Portal to customers on industrial and commercial construction sites around the world. Our turnstile, access control, and shipping container modifications have been utilized to secure every type of perimeter from industrial and commercial construction sites to nuclear facilities and military installations.

Over the past 10 years semi trucks with flatbed trailers and roll-off trailers alike have made their way in and out of MSSIs Worthington, KY, manufacturing facility to deliver our patented MAC Portal to customers around the world. Our turnstile, access control, and shipping container modifications have been utilized to secure every type of perimeter from industrial and commercial construction sites to nuclear facilities and military installations.

Once our units arrive, onsite installation is a cinch. The MAC Portal can easily be offloaded, hooked to power, integrated into an existing access control infrastructure, or act as a standalone system for payroll and time-keeping purposes. That's all it takes, and the MAC Portal is up and running protecting the perimeter of our customers sites. The portability and ease of installation make the patented MAC Portal the perfect solution for a wide range of perimeters.

Although the patented MAC Portal is the most convenient and effective access control solution available, not all projects have the same scope and budget. That is precisely why MSSI offers two procurement options. The decision to purchase or rent is driven by many different factors: length of the project, available capital, depreciation vs. expense, etc. Some benefits of both are outlined below.

Purchase:
Full Customizable
One turnstile to 10 turnstiles, cameras, biometrics, or a communication mast, the MAC Portal can be custom built to fit your specific needs.

Turn Key - When you purchase a MAC Portal we will install the access control software of your choice and deliver a product that is plug-and-play.

Future Savings - The portability of the MAC Portal allows you to move it to the next job to experience the same cost savings time and time again at a lower initial cost than the tradition
al "stick-built" gate.

Rent: View Details of our Rental Program

No Capital Outlay - Get all the benefits of the MAC Portal without touching your capital budget.

Avoid the Capital Approval Process - By renting the MAC Portal you skip the headache and paperwork involved with capital expenditures.

Short and Long-Term Rental Rates - Some projects do not last long enough to justify a purchase so you can rent a MAC Portal for as little as
six months.

MSSI: The Importance of Turnstiles on a Commercial Construction Project

MSSI: The Importance of Turnstiles on a Commercial Construction Project

The idea of a turnstile is relatively simple to understand. Turnstiles such as those used in the patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal can be paired, or “tandem” turnstiles with two lanes – or single, full-height turnstile lanes. The mechanical turnstiles used in MAC Portals physically prevent entry or exit where other more traditional forms of perimeter security are not as dependable.

Utilizing Turnstiles the Right Way

As risks or threats to secure sites increase, there is also an increase in the need to better control people entering and exiting secure locations like commercial or industrial construction sites.

The mechanical turnstiles like those in our patented MAC Portals typically use ratchet mechanisms to allow the rotation of the turnstile in one direction, allowing entrance but preventing rotation in the other direction. For effective perimeter security, our MAC Portals may be integrated with an access control technology, allowing access only to authorized individuals with the proper security credentials or identifiers.

Turnstiles that are integrated with access control software can also be used for time-keeping and payroll purposes by counting the number of authorized and identified people passing through the secure gate.

If left unattended and unsecured, theft of tools and equipment from construction sites where a commercial property is being built can cause a significant amount of lost time and money. (Remember, thieves may be looking to steal small things like power tools, and also large equipment like bulldozers, fork-lifts, and more.) Just a few years ago a man was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona after stealing a dump truck from a construction site. In 2015 a man in Amarillo, Texas walked on to a construction site and hot-wired a forklift. In Charleston, West Virginia a man was arrested in August of 2017 for stealing a concrete saw and a bucket full of miscellaneous power tools and batteries. We would love to have the opportunity to work with you to prevent these types of things from happening at your job site.

Modular Security Systems Inc.(MSSI) is at the forefront of portable perimeter security solutions using a wide range of access control technology, turnstiles, and vehicle barrier gates. For more information on MSSI and all of our access control options, CONTACT US HERE or call at 740.532.7822.
