Access Control and Turnstiles from Modular Security Systems Inc.

Posted by Miles Duncil on Wed, Dec 11, 2019

Modular Access Control, Modular Security Systems, MSSI, Turnstile, Turnstiles, access control

From the beginning of time through today, there has been and will continue to be a need to limit accessibility to some places for some people. Since the 1960s, access control technology has been utilized to add or restrict entrances and to track people coming and going, and to do so in a wide range of manners. In the not-so-prehistoric early days of access control technology, a simple keypad was used to restrict certain areas. Shortly thereafter, RFID or simple magnetic swipe cards came into use.

In order to meet the needs of modern day access control and perimeter security access control, technology has evolved into tools that allow you to create many layers of protection that can adapt to any security concerns – whether you are at a bank, a military base, or a major industrial or commercial construction site. That evolution and the ever-changing security concerns give reason as to why access control technology today has been developed to allow security professionals to update and maintain their chosen security solution(s) with just a few clicks on a keyboard or with a mouse.

Using biometric access control hardware that ties into access control software, security pros can keep all of their security solutions up to date, management can revise access control lists, times and attendance for payroll purposes, and grant a wide range of authorization levels for individuals quickly and easily – within just a few seconds.

The access control technologies that involve biometric parameters don't require someone to keep track of a card, badge or PIN number. By scanning someone’s fingerprint, hand, the veins in their hand, their eyes, or even their face using facial recognition devices, the access control technologies available use identifiers that can't easily be lost or left on the kitchen counter at the house.

These access control technologies and software solutions can perform tasks above and beyond simply granting access of an individual into a room. They can also help track an individual’s history of activity, create alerts if a door or gate is left open, and in the case of an emergency such as a fire, unlock to allow escape.

Not only does today's access control technology give you peace of mind knowing the harvest won't be raided by the next village over, but it's also friendly to your pocketbook and can help save security-minded folks a lot of time and money. Unlike more traditional modes of perimeter security, modern day access control technologies can not only prevent theft, but can also help track employees for time and attendance – and can be installed at a fraction of the cost of building a 10’ perimeter wall of concrete block. Access control technologies today are so easy to update and maintain that they can give customers a fantastic return on their investment.

Modular Security Systems Inc.(MSSI) is at the forefront of portable perimeter security solutions using a wide range of access control technology and shipping container modifications. For more information on MSSI and all of our access control options, CONTACT US HERE or call at 740.532.7822.

New York Contractors Use MAC Portals to Comply with Local Law 196

Posted by Miles Duncil on Fri, Dec 6, 2019

MSSI, patented MAC Portal, Modular Security Systems Inc, Local Law 196, NYC Local Law 196

New York Contractors Use MAC Portals to Comply with Local Law 196

Our patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal helps keep non-employees from just wandering onto construction sites and helps keep workers who have not met the Local Law 196 safety training from entering. Through the utilization of a patented MAC Portal turnstile with access control technology, managers on job sites are able to guarantee that only workers who are up-to-date on their safety training certificates can enter the secure construction perimeter. Utilized on job sites from the Hudson Yards project to the JFK airport terminal expansion and the construction of Freedom Tower, contractors all around New York have used the MAC Portal as the first line of defense against site intrusion and to make sure workers are keeping up with their safety training.

What is Local Law 196?

Local Law 196, once fully phased-in, will require that:

*Workers at certain job sites receive 40 hours of safety training; and

*Supervisors at certain job sites receive 62 hours of safety training.

Who must be trained?

*Workers at job sites that are required to designate a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager.

*Supervisors at these job sites must also be trained. This includes Site Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators, Concrete Safety Managers, Construction Superintendents and competent persons.

How is Local Law 196 enforced?

*Permit applicants will be required to certify to the Department that workers who will be working under the permit will have the required training.

What's the consequences of non-compliance?

*If the Department discovers that workers at a construction site are untrained, the Department will issue a violation with civil penalties that go as high as $5,000 per untrained worker to the owner of the site, the permit holder and the employer of the untrained worker. These civil penalties can be mitigated if an employer sponsors training for such untrained worker.

*If the Department discovers that a permit holder has failed to maintain a log that demonstrated that all of the workers at a site are trained, the Department will issue a violation with a civil penalty of $2,500.

*The Department will also conduct unannounced inspections at sites where untrained workers have been discovered.

How does the patented MAC Portal help contractors comply with Local Law 196?

The patented MAC Portal integrated with access control technology helps contractors in New York and around the world by making sure that only workers with up-to-date safety training are granted access to a secure construction site. Any time an employee completes a required safety training, that information can be recorded and added to their individual credentials. With the click of a mouse and the right MAC Portal with the right access control technology infrastructure, contractors can assure that only employees who are properly trained can enter the site.

It's just that simple.

Portable MAC Portals with Turnstiles and Access Control

One of the major benefits of having a patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal delivered to your site is the lead time. The MAC Portal can be delivered within 6-8 weeks from receipt of a purchase order. Manufactured with any type of site-specified access control technology our portable perimeter security solutions offer the perfect solution for both temporary and permanent installations.

Once delivered, installation can also take place in a matter of minutes! Depending on the site and specifications, the patented MAC Portal can be dropped into a fence line, connected to the electric, and the MAC is fully operational. The portability and ease of installation make the patented MAC Portal the perfect solution for industrial and commercial construction sites in the US and around the world.

Our patented MAC Portals have been used for a wide range of perimeter security purposes on construction projects around the world. Many perimeter security installations on construction sites use turnstiles and are often built into permanent structures. These permanent installations require expensive construction, long timelines, and limited feasibility because they need to be built and are often torn down after a project ends.

What separates Modular Security Systems Inc. (MSSI) and our MAC Portals from the competition is turn-key installation, a customizable design, and the lack of need for construction on site.

Recycle, Re-Use, & ReInvent the BOX with Modular Security Systems Inc.

MSSI, MAC Portal, patented MAC Portal, Modular Security Systems Inc, patented Modular Access Control MAC Portal

Recycle, Re-Use, & ReInvent the BOX with Modular Security Systems Inc.

Modular Security Systems, Inc. (MSSI) located in Worthington, Kentucky is doing its part to recycle, re-use, and re-invent the box. We re-use or recycle "one-trip" shipping containers that have completed their trip across the ocean bringing imports into the United States. After the goods from these containers are offloaded, the containers themselves are often stored in shipyards around the U.S. and may or may not ever be used again. Given the U.S. trade deficit, it is estimated that about 7 million shipping containers enter U.S. ports every year, and only about half of those containers are reused to ship exports out of the country. MSSI takes full advantage of the surplus of these one-trip containers by modifying them into our patented Modular Access Control (MAC), Vehicle Access Control (VAC) Portals, and ground-level guard offices.

Our portable perimeter security products are then utilized on industrial and commercial construction sites to secure the perimeter and control employee/visitor access to these secure work sites. Built with turnstiles, vehicle barrier gates, climate-controlled guardhouses, and access control technology these re-purposed containers allow only authorized workers to enter the secure site.

The recycling of these shipping containers is environmentally friendly and is a great example of how an otherwise wasted resource can be re-used. The recycled or reinvented boxes have proven to be far more durable and stronger than other stick-built structures that are typically used in conventional construction for construction site security.

Turn-key and easily put in use, the portable perimeter security solutions from Modular Security Systems Inc. have been used by major industrial and commercial construction companies like Fluor, Bechtel, Jacobs, Turner Construction, AECOM, Kiewit, Whiting-Turner, Skanska, and CB&I.

For more information on MSSI and our portable perimeter security solutions for industrial and commercial construction projects CONTACT US HERE or call us at 740.532.7822.
