At Modular Security Systems Inc. (MSSI) the decisions we make about what access control technology to install in our patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portals is left entirely up to our customers. In working with our customers to develop the appropriate portable perimeter security solution to meet their site-specific needs, we start by comparing various access control solutions with our customers.

We know that access control technology does not have a "one- size fits all" solution that will work for all of our customers, so we stay open to new access control technologies and how to integrate them into our portable turnstile solution, the patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal.

The development of access control technologies has seen steady growth since the events of September 11, 2001 and new access control technologies are being developed every year.

An access control point where various technologies can be implemented may be a door, a turnstile, a vehicle gate, or even an elevator, where granting access can be electronically controlled via the chosen access control technology. More often than not an access point is a door or a turnstile.

A turnstile integrated with an electronic access control technology like those found in the patented MAC Portal may contain several elements. At its most basic, there is a stand-alone electric lock. The lock is unlocked by a security guard with a switch or the push of a button, but automating this process with access control technology may replace the security guard. Access control readers such as card swipe systems, hand geometry readers, IRIS eye scanners, and many others can be used to identify individuals and allow them access to particular areas or locations. Typically, the reader itself does not make a decision to allow access, but sends the information it collects to a central system where the credentials are analyzed in less than a second, which then allows the turnstile to turn or stay in the locked position.

In addition to securing a location, the patented MAC Portal with turnstiles and access control can also collect information for time-keeping and payroll purposes.

At MSSI we encourage all of our customers to carefully analyze various access control technologies to find the right product to integrate into a patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal, so don't be afraid to ask us for suggestions. Based on your site-specific needs, we will work with you to help develop the optimal onsite security solution.
