Modular Security Systems Inc. (MSSI) specializes in creating portable, turn-key access control solutions using ISO shipping container modifications and full-height, high security turnstiles. By utilizing the portability of shipping containers, MSSI has been able to create a wide range of security solutions for foot traffic at major commercial and industrial construction projects around the world. Pictured in this week’s edition of the Turnstile Blog is one such portable solution, which was purchased by the Barton Malow Company for a project at the General Motors Arlington Assembly Plant in Arlington, Texas.
Barton Malow Company is a construction service provider that celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2014. Barton Malow is a top performing contractor in specialties such as education, energy, federal, healthcare, industrial and manufacturing, and special event facilities. Working to supply innovative solutions through engaging technology like Building Information Modeling (BIM) and unique contracting methods like integrated project delivery (IPD), their team includes over 1,300 people throughout 12 offices. The company is headquartered in Southfield, Michigan.
The General Motors Assembly plant in Arlington, Texas first began production in 1954, building the Pontiac Chieftain. New construction at this facility will allow the production of large metal parts such as doors, hoods, and side panels for General Motors’ next generation of full-size SUVs. The Arlington plant is the lone source for Chevrolet Tahoes, Suburbans, GMC Yukons, and Cadillac Escalades sold globally. UAW-GM employees in Arlington produce more than 1,100 vehicles daily.
With the increase in manpower for the project, the company has an inherent need to secure the facility and track employees’ time for payroll purposes. To resolve these security and access control concerns, managers with Barton Malow contacted MSSI to acquire a perimeter security solution. After some consideration, the Patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal pictured here was purchased and delivered to Arlington. The patented MAC-3 (MAC Portal with three turnstile lanes) shown here was delivered, tied into the fence line, and is currently in use maintaining security for the facility and access control for workers onsite.
