Modular Security Systems Inc. (MSSI) is in the business of providing portable, turn-key perimeter security solutions for military installations, government agencies, and major industrial and commercial construction firms. Developing portable perimeter security solutions for customers around the world, MSSI has worked to secure major construction projects at locations such as power plants, refineries, chemical plants, metropolitan hospitals, hotels, airports, and more.
With any construction project, there are inherent risks and reasons for added security. In this week’s edition of the Turnstile Blog we're going to take a look at two of the main risks affecting construction projects around the world.
Theft - Construction projects are targets for thieves because they typically have high-value tools, equipment, and supplies that can be easily accessed if proper security measures aren't taken. Theft from a construction site is very common. Not only do construction managers have to worry about thievery from outside intruders, but they also must be aware of the occasional “shady” employee out to take “a little extra” home at the end of the day. Theft on jobsites can be very costly. Millions of dollars every year are lost on construction sites due to theft – and due to the down time associated with waiting for new or replacement equipment to be delivered.
Vandalism - Deliberate damage and vandalism on construction sites is common as well. More often than not, vandalism is carried out by people who just want to (as they say in The Dark Knight, a popular Batman film) "watch the world burn.” Let’s face it, some people just like to break stuff. Because construction sites are typically unmanned at night, intruders may find ways to enter the site and cause a lot of damage. In addition to people out to “just break stuff”, there may be protesters against some projects, disgruntled employees, or others with an axe to grind who may seek to do damage to projects, tools, and equipment.
Easily dropped into a fence line on a construction project, the patented Modular Access Control (MAC) Portal with optional climate-controlled guard house, turnstiles, and access control technology is able to help prevent jobsite theft and vandalism – and to help track employees’ time and attendance for payroll purposes. Helping resolve some of the big problems and risks on construction projects is part of our mission here at Modular Security Systems Inc.
