Modular Security Systems, Inc., MSSI, of Ironton Ohio is assisting many major refineries around the US and Canada to secure their perimeters and to control access into the refineries. Many of these plants have begun expansion and retrofit work in preparation to receive the heavy crude that is scheduled to be brought south from Canada. These refineries are bringing on site thousands of workers to assist in the plant retrofits. Per the new maritime security laws (Marsec laws) these plants must be able to control and restrict access into and out of the plant at all times. Access control and time and attendance accountability has become a huge issue at plants like refineries and petrochemical plants that are subject to homeland security rules and marsec law. Oil refiners such as Marathon Petroleum, ExxonMobil, Motiva, ConocoPhillips, Murphy Oil, Air Products, British Petroleum and many others are among the refiners retrofitting their plants and having to make accommodations for bringing into the plant thousands of works for their plant heavy crude upgrades.

Modular Security Systems, Inc. (MSSI) has provided to many refiners in the US and Canada a modular, self contained, mobile, turnstile unit that is allowing many of these plants to become immediately compliant with the marsec rules and to allow plant owners and contactors a way to effectively manage time and attendance on these sites as well as addressing marsec access control laws.

In 2004 MSSI invented and applied for a patent for the MAC (Modular Access Control) modern "time alley". In late 2008 MSSI received a Notice of Allowance by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The MAC security portal was created by incorporating full height turnstiles into an ISO shipping container (connex, conex) allowing for a mobile, portable access control portal that can contain card readers, biometric readers or bar code readers and can be a standalone access control system or be tied directly into an existing plant-wide access control system. Many different layouts are available and can be seen at www.modularsecuritysystems.com/products

Rob Slagel, Co-President of Modular Security Systems says "We are well pleased with the reception that we have received from the refining industrial community since taking the MAC Security portal to market 4 years ago. We have hundreds of these units securing the Nation's oil interests in the US, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. We also provide them to US Military base camps throughout the theater in the Middle East as well. MSSI is please that it is able to play a role in remedying the nation's oil and gasoline supply issue."
