Having provided Modular Access Control (MAC) portals to nearly three hundred locations in the United States it seemed only a matter of time before the rest of the world caught on. In recent years MSSI has put close to fifty patented MAC Portals on the ground, outside the US, in places like Canada, to secure the oil sands, Iraq and Kuwait, to aid in the security of our troops, and more recently in the Republic of Kazakhstan, to protect and secure oil refining there. On September 16th, 2009 MSSI received the go ahead to install three more MAC-4s to a booming refinery near the Kazakhstanian city of Atyrau.

Atyrau City, whose name is Kazakh for the place where the river flows into the sea, has a population of 180,000 people and is located at the mouth of the Ural River and the Caspian Sea. Founded in 1992 the Tengizchevroil Partnership, a joint venture between Chevron, Exxon Mobil, and the Republic of Kazakhstan has provided hundreds if not thousands of jobs for residents in and around the city. Owning 40 year rights to oil reserves in the surrounding area called Korolevskoye and in the Caspian Sea, the Tengiz refinery has continued to grow and with that growth has realized the need for additional access control security.

Having used the patented MAC Portal at various refineries in the United States top ranking officers within Chevron and Exxon Mobil knew just who to contact for an access control solution. Since the inception of the project MSSI has delivered four MAC Portals to the Tengiz refinery, including one MAC-1, a MAC-2, a MAC-4 and one MAC-8. With the patented MAC Portals onsite the partnership has been able to increase site security and more efficiently track and maintain time-keeping records. The MACs, given their name in direct correlation to the number of turnstile walkthrough bays utilized in their design, have proven themselves so useful that the Tengiz refinery has recently placed an order for three more MAC-4s bringing the patented MAC Portal total onsite to seven.

These newly ordered MAC 4s will incorporate four full-height turnstiles, proximity card readers, and will be delivered integrated with the access control software specified by the site. "Working with people on the other side of the planet is exciting, but it does provide its own set of challenges", stated Kevin Harrison, Vice President of Modular Security Systems, "one being the significant difference in the time from here to there. They're about ten or eleven hours ahead of us so a lot of our correspondence takes place before or after our regular office hours." "Another hurdle is the delivery time; it will actually take us less time to build these MAC-4s than it will for them to be delivered, but once they reach their destination these turn-key MAC Portals will be ready to plug and play."
