Co-Founder and Co-President, Modular Security Systems, Inc. (MSSI)

In 2005 David J. Slagel co-founded Modular Security Systems Inc (MSSI), an intellectual properties holding company specializing in innovative products for controlling access into high security sites around the world. MSSI’s Modular Access Control () buildings have been in high demand in market segments such as construction, petroleum, chemical, power generation, and military sites. The company’s rapid growth since startup has been a catalyst for an expanded sales force and increased manufacturing capacity. The creation of a VP position for the company has allowed David to shift his focus to international growth, distribution and new products/services.

In 2004, David acquired ownership in Dropbox Inc and Storage on the Spot, Inc. and he currently serves as Co-President of those two companies as well. Dropbox Inc is a specialty fabrication company which serves the Commercial/Industrial marketplace with innovative products. Storage on the Spot is a portable storage company (rental) serving Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.

David is also Co-President of Industrial Sanitation, Inc. Industrial Sanitation is one of the oldest portable toilet companies in the United States which has been in the family for three generations. Over the past two years Industrial Sanitation has more than doubled in revenue due to new product and service offerings over an expanded territory. Industrial Sanitation, which traditionally served a three state territory, can now provide rental products throughout the United States.

Prior to owning his own businesses, David gained extensive leadership and management experience while working for Cargill, Guardian Industries and PPG Industries. Early in his career, PPG moved David into their Executive Development Program and at age 33 David was appointed as Plant Manager of PPG Flat Glass in Salem, Oregon. David went on to sponsor the Western Territory Leadership Team for PPG where he focused on developing collaboration and synergy across Standard Business Units and functional areas (sales, marketing, R&D, manufacturing).

David has served on the Board of Directors for the Salem Economic Development Corporation (SEDCOR), Board of Directors for Enterprise for Education and he currently participates as an Ashland Alliance member.

David earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering from The Ohio State University and his MBA in General Management from the University of Phoenix. In addition to his formal degrees, David has received extensive training in key management programs such as:

Executive Development Program, Fundamentals of Executive Finance and Accounting, Team Leader Training, Lean Manufacturing, Strategic Thinking and Planning, Sigma Logic, Finance for Non-Financial Managers, Breakthrough Team Problem Solving, Quality Process, Team Building, Deming Training, Crosby Training, Taguchi Method Problem Solving……

David is originally from Ironton, Ohio and currently resides in Flatwoods, Kentucky with his wife Lori and two children.
